Youth SCUBA Program

SCUBA is a great way to build confidence and teach young people the values of our our ocean environment. It’s also a lot of fun!

At California Ocean Adventures we have worked with over 250 divers between the ages of 5-14. Our instructors know how to work with younger divers to give them confidence in their skills to become great divers, period. We don’t want to make them “good for their age”, we want to make them good divers.

We do this by using a classroom format rather than an online classroom. We have found that having a face to face classroom experience gives the divers a chance to ask questions right away instead of having to wait until the next time they see their instructor(s). We keep it fun and light so nobody gets stressed out over quizzes or exams while learning.

Who can take this course?
Divers must be 10 years old before starting the course.

What gear is required?
A good fitting mask with snorkel, fins, booties, and gloves are required. Personal gear can be purchased at a 15% discount and is encouraged for comfort and fit. Fins, booties, and gloves can be provided if needed.

Do parents need to attend classes?
No, you can take two hours off and go get a massage, or cocktail!

What certification does my child receive?
Divers between the ages of 10-14 receive a Jr. Open Water Diver certification. This is recognized worldwide, and only limits the diver to 40ft/12 meters, and must be diving with an adult.

How long is the certification good for?
This is a lifetime certification. Although we recommend a refresher pool session if the diver has been out of the water for more than 6 months.
